The Pleasant Hill Church of God began as a home Bible Study. In 1973, this small group had the opportunity to purchase a building that had been vacated by a local Church of the Brethren congregation. The building, though built in 1903, was large and spacious for the small congregation. Throughout our 34 years of existence, the building has served us well. God has blessed us and many good things have happened here.
However, the congregation has changed over the years. In the last 10 years, worship attendance has nearly doubled. There is also an active Wednesday night program that draws many children from the surrounding community. The Lord has opened many doors for us to serve this community and to share the gospel. The building that once seemed so large is becoming cramped. The age of the building is starting to tell. Though we have remodeled and updated the church, it has become clear that they can only delay the obvious. The list of repairs seems to be growing. It no longer seems like good stewardship to pour money into a decaying building. Our current building, though beautiful, was built with three levels. The many steps have become an obstacle to many, and large parts of the building are simply inaccessible for some in our congregation. The church building is also “land-locked” and there is no opportunity for us to expand on this site.
It was for these reasons that the church voted to purchase 10 acres of land in May 2006 after much thought, conversation, and prayer. The new property is located less than a mile from our current building on a busy state route. We purchased the land for $80,000. We borrowed $60,000 and it is our goal to have this debt paid in full by May 2008. When the land is paid, we will begin planning and arranging the construction of a new building. We thank those who are generously helping toward meeting our goal.
